November 24 l The Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue (Mindanawon) conducts its Cultural Formation for the first semester of SY 2023-2024 with Brgy. Sirib Tribal Chieftain Datu Rosalito Anog as resource person. Datu Anog, who is also the Chairman of the Ancestral Domain Office of the Bagobo Clata, talks about the importance of education to the new generation of Lumads in the context of globally connected indigenous youth yet who are deeply anchored in their cultural and historical roots.

More than twenty Lumad scholars of Mindanawon-Ateneo de Davao University, who alternately listened and attended their examinations, participated in the sharing which was held at the workshop area beside the Mindanawon office, located at the lower ground of Finster building of the Ateneo de Davao University.

Ms. Perpevina C. Tio, Mindanawon Director, and Ms. Ruvi Jean Ancheta, Lumad Scholarship Program Coordinator, also attended the activity.

DLPC & Aboitiz Foundation provide annual assistance to the Lumad Scholarship Program of Mindanawon-Ateneo de Davao University

November 7 I The Davao Light & Power Co. (DLPC) and the Aboitiz Foundation. Inc. turns over the annual financial support to the Indigenous Peoples’ Scholarship Program of the Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue (Mindanawon) – Ateneo de Davao University.

Davao Light President and COO Rodger Velasco hands over the symbolic checque to Mindanawon Director Perpevina C. Tio with two of Mindanawon’s Lumad scholars, Caren Luis (Bagobo Clata of Sirib) and Melanie Brigole (Bagobo Tagabawa of Sibulan). Both students are taking BS Education in the Ateneo de Davao University. In attendance is Davao Light’s Community Relations Manager, Fermin Edillon.

Leadership Training Workshop for the IP Youth of Kitaotao, Bukidnon

May 6-7 I Mindanawon conducts Leadership Training for the Matigsalog youth of Kitaotao, Bukidnon that aims to strengthen their leadership skills for greater engagement in peace and development agenda and to harness good leadership qualities of youth leaders to promote effective leadership.

The 2-day activity is organized by the Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP), a nonpartisan international organization globally recognized for its Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) strategies in preventing violence, increasing safety and security of civilians, and strengthening local peace infrastructures across its programme locations. NP’s Project Stream (STRengthening youth Engagement and Action towards a peaceful Mindanao) commits to support women and youth in building and strengthening their capacity for engagement. NP is in partnership with the Kamalitanan Te Manobo Matigsalog Kulamanen Ne Migsabeka (KMMKM) for the activity.

2 October 2020 |The Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue of the Ateneo de Davao University receives financial support for its Lumad Scholarship Program from the Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. and the Aboitiz Foundation .

Davao Light has been providing assistance to the Lumad Youth in Mindanao to get college degree in various colleges and universities in Davao City since 2002.

The turn over ceremony was held last October 2, 2020 at the Davao Light office grounds along Ponciano Reyes St., Davao City.

In attendance to receive the check from Davao Light’s EVP and COO Engr. Rodger S. Velasco is Mindanawon Director Perpevina C. Tio with Davao Light’s Community Relations Manager, Fermin Edillon. Two Lumad scholars, Ms. Caren A. Luis (Bagobo Clata) and Ms. Ruby Therese Bangunan (Mandaya & Bagobo Clata), also attended the simple ceremony. DLPC Turns Over Solar Charging Station Project to Barangay Suawan, Marilog District

25 September 2020 | Davao Light & Power Company (DLPC), together with Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue of the Ateneo de Davao University, officially turns over the solar charging station project to the members of the Lower Happy Valley (LOHAVA) Farmers Association in Sitio Lower Happy Valley, Barangay Suawan, Marilog District, Davao City.

The project comes with free residential wiring services, batteries and 3 light bulbs for each association member as well as two light posts for the community.

Lower Happy Valley (LOHAVA) Farmers Association Takes Up Financial Literacy Workshop

Mindanawon conducts financial literacy workshop for LOHAVA Farmers Association at the Barangay Hall of Suawan, Marilog District, Davao City. The seminar-workshop is a two-day activity, from July 18 to 19, 2019.

The activity aims for the participants to (1) take refresher inputs or review on fundamental mathematical operations, (2) understand the basic concepts of financial management, (3) undergo exercises on record-keeping of simple transactions and learned practical guidelines of checks and balances in organizational finance,  (4) make their own organizational income statements, (5) utilize the income sources from the solar charging station and membership fees, and (6) make a project proposal.

This activity is the last part of Mindanawon’s capacity-building program in Barangay Suawan.

Mindanawon Conducts Leadership Skills Seminar in Barangay Suawan

27 July 2019 | Mindanawon conducts leadership skills seminar for Lower Happy Valley (LOHAVA) Farmers Association in Barangay Hall of Suawan, Marilog District, Davao City.

The seminar-workshop aims to characterize the values of a leader, distinguish the difference between a resolution and an ordinance, and come up with their organizational conflict resolution mechanisms. This is the second part of the capacity-building program in Suawan.

Mindanawon Conducts Organizational Strengthening Workshop in Barangay Suawan

26 July 2019 | Mindanawon conducts organizational strengthening workshop for Lower Happy Valley (LOHAVA) Farmers Association in Barangay Hall of Suawan, Marilog District, Davao City.

The seminar-workshop aims to deepen the roles and functions of the officers, understand the basics of presiding an organizational meeting and minutes-taking, and learn the Philippine government and its branches. This is the first part of the capacity-building program in Suawan.

 

DLPC Turns Over Solar Charging Station Project to Barangay Tapak

18 July 2019 | Davao Light Power and Co., together with Mindanawon of Ateneo de Davao University, officially turns over the solar charging station project to Labo Farmers Association in Sitio Labo, Barangay Tapak, Paquibato District, Davao City.

The project comes with batteries, 3 light bulbs and wiring service to every 40 households. Two lighting posts also are also assembled. The community consists of Ata tribe.

Mindanawon Visits Community in Sitio Lower Happy Valley

17 June 2019 | Mindanawon visits Sitio Lower Happy Valley, Barangay Suawan, Marilog District, Davao City together with Mr. Dodong Bonsobre, wiring in-charge of Davao Light and Power Company, Inc.

The community visit allows the people’s organization in the area to elect their officers, formulate their vision and mission statements and constitution and by-laws, and identify the next capacity-building activities for the group.
